Energy Efficiency

Alternative energy refers to energy sources which are not based on the burning of fossil fuels or the splitting of atoms. Not only do they protect against harmful by-products, but using alternative energy helps to preserve many of the natural resources that we currently use as sources of energy. This green labels are different but they mean the same like please recycle help reduce trash and throw the trash in the trashcan.

Energy efficiency means using less energy to accomplish the same task. The idea is to eventually reduce our energy consumption and demands without diminishing our quality of life. Becoming more energy efficient will save you money, reduce pollution and ease energy demands within the economy. Efficient energy use, sometimes simply called energy efficiency, is the goal of efforts to reduce the amount of energy required to provide products and services.  An appliance receives the Energy Star® rating if it is significantly more energy.
The amount by which an appliance must exceed the minimum standards is different for each product rated, and depends on available technology. Energy Star® rated products are always among the most efficient available today.
For example, insulating a home allows a building to use less heating and cooling energy to achieve and maintain a comfortable temperature. Installing fluorescent lights or natural skylights reduces the amount of energy required to attain the same level of illumination compared with using traditional incandescent light bulbs.
There are various motivations to improve energy efficiency. Reducing energy use reduces energy costs and may result in a financial cost saving to consumers if the energy savings offset any additional costs of implementing an energy efficient technology. Reducing energy use is also seen as a solution to the problem of reducing emissions.

In environmental class we wached a movie name ''Tapped'' this movie is about bottled water and that only 1% of the water on earth is drinkable can you believe that. Well this movie had an impact on me because you can see that this people are trying to tell us that not allways drinking of water bottles is alweys safe for us is NOT 100% safe. And that you need to stop and think that maybe this bottles have something bad in side of theme and it could be harmfull for you and your childrens. Another thing that impacted me is that people that make this bottles not allways say the true. This has a lot of impact on animals too not only us because the animals from the ocean like fish suffer from contamination because of us, some people don't care about throwing the water bottles in a trash can they only care about throwing it any were only because they dont want to carry it for just 5 steps more to the trash can. This bottles end up in the ocean were fish live and I bet that fish dont like that because thats there home they want to take care of it but us the humans WE SEEM NOT TO CARE...

WHY WE NEED DO CONSERVE WATER!!!!!!!!!

We need to conserve water because, we can not live without it, we need water to live and survive!!!! Water is something important to me because in my life I need water to drink, take baths, wash my cloth etc... but you know, I do a lot of thinks with it but I don't do it all the time I conserve water by not doing it offtentlly. We can not waste it because wene your kids grow older the'll wanna drink water without limits. Ever body needs water like animals, plants and of course us!!! Have you stop and think how much water your wasting every day and in silly things come on!!!! lets stop thinking of us and think of the future and your kids, and how there going to grow fast and healthy wene theres not going to be enough water to be able to drink off. One day stop and enjoy drinkng water because it may be the last time you drink that awsome, cool and refreshing water the one that makes you enjoy life and your day!!!! Have you thought about that well know you have too stop and think about how your going to conserve water for your kids in the future!!!!!

Biofuels Impact Food Production?

                                            Biofuels impact food production?

I said yes biofuels impact food production because growing crops to make biofuels may accelerate global warming, not slow it down its effects. One research that I found was “According to Clearing Land for Biofuels make global warming worse’’ this paper talks about that biofuels release roughly as much carbon dioxide when burn it as regular gasoline or diesel. But a key criticism of the biofuel is that large amounts of fossil fuels are required to form and refine it.

Another article that I used is the “Scientists Weigh in on Biofuels vs. Food Debate’’, what’s needed instead, says Tillman, is a rational look at the big picture, he acknowledged, the demand for biofuels drive from traditional food crops like corn has contributed to a rise in global food prices, but so had increasing demand for food from burgeoning population in China and India. The primary impact of biofuels on food inflation is from increases in the farm prices of commodities that contribute to producing our food supply, like corn, soybean meal, wheat, barley and oats.

The last source I used it was the internet (Google) farm prices are largely determined by supply and demand. In the initial years of the biofuels era, demand for corn and soybean oil increased shadily. Increased demand results in higher prices for corn and soybeans. There is concern that the expansion of biofuel crop production wills threaten the food security of poor sectors of communities across the world by affecting food supply and price. In the USA, ethanol requirements are met predominantly by the fermentation of maize starch to bioethanol Michel reported that more than 70% of food price increases were due to biofuels. This is why I think that biofuels impact food production.

Pesticides

pesticides are use to kill insects, weed or plants. Pesticides prevent bugs from eating the plants and crops and from taking the nutrients from the plants you want to grow. Pesticides sometimes are good and sometimes are bad. In my opinion I think there good because they kill the insects that you dont want to eat your plants.

EC Feeding the world

1.) Why is it more food on less land?
- Theres more food on less land because 12% of the green house gas are released from rain forests.

2.) Why less water should be used?
- Less water should be use because if we used more water theres not going to be enough water for the future people.

3.) Why fewer chemicals and fertilizers should be used?
- Fewer chemicals and fertilizers should be used because in our houses we have more toxic chemical and if we stop using or just use few chemiccal it can save resources.

4.) Why it must be done cheaply?
- It must be done cheaply because 10% of people buy food and the other half is troun away and people are wasting money with something that they dont need or they dont use they are wasting money because they dont know how to wasted.

*In my opinion I agree because yes people are wasting more and more water and there not going to live enough water for the future people and there not saving water. I agree to because we are wasting mony without thinking of the future problems or the future food.

porosity, permeability, and water retention

Porosity is the volume that fits between the soil particles. Water retention is how much the water is traped like in a cup specially wene is small theres not many water to drink from, and permeability is the rate of flow that pass trough the soil.
